Getting Started


Adding Shows to Your Library


1. Tap the + button in the top-right corner of the main screen

2. Type the name of the TV show you want to track, or tap the microphone button to search by voice NEW

3. Select the show from the search results

4. The show will automatically be added to your library and organized by status

You can now search for TV shows hands-free! Simply tap the microphone icon next to the search field and speak the name of the show you're looking for. The app will transcribe your speech in real-time and display matching results.

Understanding Show Categories


Your shows are automatically organized into three sections:


β€’ In Current Season – Shows actively airing new episodes

β€’ Awaiting New Season – Shows between seasons with no upcoming episode scheduled

β€’ Ended – Shows that have concluded and won't return


Viewing Show Details


Tap any show in your library to see:

β€’ Episode air dates (next and last aired)

β€’ Full cast information

β€’ Season-by-season episode guides

β€’ Show overview and description

β€’ Status and genre information

Episode Tracking


β€’ Next Episode: See exactly when the next episode airs, including season/episode number and date

β€’ Last Episode: View the most recent episode that aired

Voice Search NEW


Search for TV shows using your voice instead of typing:


1. Tap the + button to open search

2. Tap the microphone icon next to the search field

3. Grant microphone and speech recognition permissions (first time only)

4. Speak the name of the show you want to find

5. Search results will appear automatically as you speak

6. Tap the microphone again to stop recording

The app now supports text-to-speech for improved accessibility. Long-press on any text content to have it read aloud:


β€’ Show List: Long-press any show to hear its name and episode information

β€’ Search Results: Long-press a search result to hear the show name and year

β€’ Show Details: Long-press the synopsis/overview to hear the full description

β€’ Cast Members: Long-press any cast member to hear their name and role

β€’ Episodes: Long-press an episode to hear the episode number, title, air date, and description


How to use:

1. Touch and hold (long-press) on any text element for half a second

2. The text will briefly highlight in blue

3. The app will read the content aloud

4. To stop playback, long-press again while speech is active


Manual Refresh


If you notice any outdated information:


1. Tap the πŸ”„ Refresh button in the top-left corner of the main screen

2. The app will update all shows in your library with the latest data

3. Wait a few seconds for the refresh to complete


iCloud Sync


Your show library automatically syncs across all your devices using iCloud, so you can add shows on your iPhone and see them on your iPad.

Troubleshooting


Voice search isn't working NEW


Problem: The microphone button doesn't respond or you see a permissions error.


Solution:

β€’ Go to Settings β†’ Privacy & Security β†’ Microphone, and enable access for "What To Watch Next?"

β€’ Go to Settings β†’ Privacy & Security β†’ Speech Recognition, and enable access for "What To Watch Next?"

β€’ Make sure you're in a quiet environment for better voice recognition

β€’ Speak clearly and at a normal pace

β€’ If the microphone button appears stuck (red), tap it again to reset


Text-to-speech isn't reading content NEW


Problem: Nothing happens when you long-press on text.


Solution:

β€’ Make sure you're holding for at least half a second (not just a quick tap)

β€’ Check that your device volume is turned up

β€’ If speech is already playing from a previous selection, long-press again to stop it, then try again

β€’ Restart the app if the feature becomes unresponsive


Show information isn't displaying correctly


Problem: Season or episode numbers appear incorrect, or "S0" is showing instead of the actual season.


Solution:

β€’ Tap the πŸ”„ Refresh button in the top-left corner to update all shows

β€’ The app will automatically detect and fix shows with incorrect season data

β€’ For individual shows, you can remove and re-add them to force a fresh data fetch

A show is missing or won't appear in search


Problem: You can't find a specific show when searching.


Solution:

β€’ Check your spelling – try searching with just part of the title

β€’ Try using voice search for more natural input

β€’ Some regional or very new shows may not be available in the database yet

β€’ Try searching by the show's original title if it was produced in another country

Air dates seem wrong or outdated


Problem: Episode air dates don't match what you see online.


Solution:

β€’ Use the πŸ”„ Refresh button to update all show data

β€’ Network schedule changes can occur – the app pulls from a central database that updates regularly

β€’ Some shows may have region-specific air dates

My shows aren't syncing across devices


Problem: Shows added on one device don't appear on another.


Solution:

β€’ Make sure you're signed into the same iCloud account on all devices

β€’ Check that iCloud Drive is enabled in Settings β†’ [Your Name] β†’ iCloud

β€’ Force-quit and relaunch the app on both devices

β€’ Give iCloud a few minutes to sync changes

The app is running slowly or freezing


Problem: The app feels sluggish or unresponsive.


Solution:

β€’ Force-quit the app and relaunch it

β€’ If you have a very large library (100+ shows), consider removing shows you're no longer watching

β€’ Make sure you're running the latest version of iOS

β€’ Try restarting your device

How do I remove a show from my library?


Problem: You want to stop tracking a show.


Solution:

β€’ Swipe left on any show in your library

β€’ Tap the delete button that appears

β€’ The show will be removed from all your synced devices

What data does the app collect?


What To Watch Next? respects your privacy:

β€’ Your show library is stored locally on your device and in your personal iCloud account

β€’ We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to our servers

β€’ Show data is fetched from public TV databases (TMDb API) to provide air dates and details

β€’ No account creation or email address is required

β€’ Voice search audio is processed by Apple's on-device speech recognition – no audio is sent to our servers

β€’ Text-to-speech uses Apple's built-in accessibility features – all processing happens on your device


Third-Party Data


The app uses The Movie Database (TMDb) API to retrieve TV show information. When you search for or refresh shows, the app contacts TMDb's servers to get the latest data. TMDb's privacy policy is available at: themoviedb.org/privacy-policy
